What would you think if one of your neighbors had a small child with a terminal illness and while the family had her at Disneyland - probably the last trip she would ever take -- the family's home is burglarized. Pretty sick, don't you think? This happened to a Pittsburgh family recently and because of the publicity surrounding the Make-A Wish-event, the intruder that broke into the home knew in advance how long the family would be away and when they would return.
Unfortunately, the little girl's mother did not think that anyone would be so cruel as to do this and did not consider taking protective measures, such as having a burglar alarm monitoring system installed. Everyone in her community knew all about the travel plans, but the culprit forced entry when nobody was around to see it happen. The thief had the audacity to take a $1 bill from the girl's lunch box.
If you're planning to leave town on vacation, don't tell every Tom, Dick and Harry the details of your travel itinerary. Burglars don't want to get caught while they're looting your home, so naturally they'll break in when they know you'll be away.
