Here’s another one of those stupid burglar stories. This happened a few years back in Tennessee, before the keypad lock function was popular on cell phones. The Hawkins County 911 dispatcher got a call from a cell phone and became privy to a conversation happening between two guys who were getting ready to burglarize a local home.
Over a period of 40 minutes, they gave away enough details to allow the police to discreetly show up at the scene and catch them as they were leaving a residential home with stolen property. One of the suspects was keeping his cell phone in a tight jean jacket pocket. The pressure caused the number “9” to be held down for it to automatically dial “911” – a safety feature of the phone, unbeknownst to the culprits.
We all know this is not likely to happen with the new mobile device technology on the market, but guys like this are really not cut out to have a high level of success in the world of crime. These are the types of individuals who set off the burglar alarm systems in the home they're robbing but don’t have the sense to leave before the police arrive.
