It’s not enough anymore to have security equipment installed and then believe that’s all there is to protecting your home and family. The best home security attitude starts with looking for ways you can back up your security company.
- If someone comes to your door trying to sell you something, don’t open the door if you don’t recognize the person. Ask them to pass their credentials under the door and then call the company to confirm their identity. Home invasions happen when you open a door to a stranger.
- When listing your number in the phone book, or adding your name to a mailbox or doorbell buzzer, use only your initial and last name. Never advertise your full name.
- Let the people on your street know if you see anyone suspicious hanging around. Start a Neighborhood Watch program if there's not already one in your community.
- Don’t leave notes on the door indicating that you're not home. Burglars are tempted to break in if they think you're not there.
